About this program
Charging Right rewards eligible EV owners in supported Canadian provinces for electricity used charging at home with a compatible smart Level 2 charger. Three plans are available, with published rates ranging from 3¢/kWh to 16¢/kWh depending on the selected plan and charging volume. Rewards are funded through Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations. The program is described as being available in select Canadian provinces, beginning with Ontario as part of a pilot. Ontario is currently the only province publicly identified by Charging Right. Eligibility
EV owners in a supported Canadian province with a compatible internet-connected smart charger installed at their residence. The charger must stay connected by Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and only sessions recorded through the registered charger qualify.
Hardware & vehicle requirements
A Level 2 smart charger that connects to Charging Right over OCPP, kept online by Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Charging Right supports OCPP 1.6J and OCPP 2.0.1, and states that not every OCPP charger qualifies: each model is tested and certified before approval, and an unlisted one has to be checked with support first. The charger must be registered exclusively with Charging Right and cannot also be registered with another charging network operator. An existing compatible charger can be registered without replacing hardware, and the Premium Plus package includes a Joint EVL007 charger that arrives already configured.
Reward structure details
Three plans, each starting at its own rate and rising by 1¢ per additional 1,000 eligible kWh: Freemium at $0/year starts at 3¢/kWh and tops out at 10¢/kWh; Premium at $99/year starts at 10¢/kWh and tops out at 13¢/kWh; and the Premium Plus package at $449, which includes a Joint EVL007 charger, starts at 13¢/kWh and tops out at 16¢/kWh. The 16¢ headline maximum is the Premium Plus ceiling, not a starting rate. Charging Right says the Premium and Premium Plus subscription fees are reimbursed as part of the rebate. Rewards are calculated annually and paid once that year's Clean Fuel Regulations credits have been issued and monetized, typically in the second quarter of the following year. Separately from the per-kWh rate, Charging Right advertises a $25 bonus for every successful referral registration on a Premium or Premium Plus plan. This is a referral promotion rather than part of the charging reward, and it is not reflected in the rates above.
