About this program

Variablegrid Plus pays participants 10¢ for every eligible kWh recorded through enrolled Variablegrid charging equipment. Rewards start with the first eligible charging session, with no enrollment fee, deposit, monthly program fee, or usage threshold. The program is supported by value generated from eligible EV charging under Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations. Rewards accumulate in the Varian app and can be withdrawn in cash once the balance reaches $50. Variablegrid Plus also includes automatic demand response and load shifting, while allowing participants to override individual events when they need to charge immediately.

Eligibility

Available to eligible Variablegrid customers in Canada with enrolled charging equipment at a home or participating Variablegrid-managed multi-unit residential site. Existing Variablegrid charger owners can enroll directly, while new customers can obtain eligible equipment through an authorized dealer. The charger must remain online and connected so eligible charging can be measured and reported.

Hardware & vehicle requirements

An eligible Variablegrid charger is required. Variablegrid states that any Variablegrid charger qualifies, including the RS40 and RS48, either on its own or paired with the VarianHOME energy management system. Charging equipment at participating Variablegrid-managed buildings is also eligible. Existing Variablegrid equipment can be enrolled without purchasing another charger. Kia Canada also offers an optional three-year Variablegrid Plus enrollment path through EV-certified Kia dealerships, with up to $350 in upfront hardware savings when qualifying Variablegrid equipment is bundled with the offer. Variablegrid states that Plus itself does not have a general lock-in requirement, but customers who receive discounted hardware through a dealer promotion may have to repay a prorated portion of that discount if they leave during the applicable promotional period.

Reward structure details

Participants earn a flat 10¢/kWh from the first eligible charging session, with no tier to unlock and no published earning cap. Rewards accumulate in the Varian app and can be withdrawn once the balance reaches $50 through a secure third-party payment provider. Balances below $50 carry forward and Variablegrid states that they do not expire. Participation includes automatic demand response and load shifting. Variablegrid says participants receive advance notice of events through the app and can skip or override an individual event when immediate charging is required. Variablegrid states that its published 10¢/kWh Plus rate is current as of August 2026 and is subject to change on notice.
